HUAWIE SMARTWATCH REVIEW

      HUAWIE WATCH

WHAT IS THE HUAWIE WATCH ?
Despite Huawei launching a plethora of good-looking, high-spec'd and generally well received smartphones over the last couple of years, the Chinese company is struggling somewhat to establish itself as a desirable brand outside of its homeland.
Its first few cracks at the wearable market – most notably its duo of TalkBand trackers – were pretty naff, so we raised an eyebrow when it unveiled what looked like being a real jewel in the Android Wear earlier this year.

Huawei Watch: Design and build

The Huawei Watch packs scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, like theApple Watch, and a cold-forged, stainless steel unibody design. It comes in gold, silver or black and there are both fine-grain leather and cold-forged 316L stainless steel strap options.
This is no rubber and plastic hatchet job - the Huawei Watch is stylish and well-made. With a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 11.3mm, it's a touch more compact than the new 42mm Moto 360. The bezels are also just 0.6mm thick, so you get more display real-estate too – 1.4 inches compared to 1.37 on the littler Moto.
The rose-gold plated model – that we've also spent some time with – features a bezel with an extra textured finish, making it an altogether prettier wearable than the two plainer, minimalist watches. It glints in the light and feels more like a piece of - admittedly fairly weighty jewellery.
Essential readingTop smartwatches for 2015
Clearly Huawei is aiming to be the first genuine premium smartwatch from the Google stable but, while the hardened glass and the mix of leather and stainless steel are a million miles from the original Wear models from 2014 – we don't expect Tag Heuer to be shaking in its boots.
High-end it may well be – luxury is certainly is not. Yes, it may be a touch fancier than the likes of the LG Watch Urbane and the ZenWatch 2, but it's not all that different, and certainly not as superior as its price-tag suggests.

HUAWIE WATCH DISPLAY
The Huawei Watch walks the round LG display path, rather than limping along Moto 's 'flat-tyre' avenue – in reference to the black dead area at the bottom of the 360's screen. The AMOLED display is a 1.4-inch 400 x 400 one with a ppi count of 286. That's the highest on any Android Wear device to date – although the soon-to-launch LG Watch Urbane Second Edition will trump it with a 480 x 480 panel at 348ppi.
Huawei's effort is made all the more impressive thanks to a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Colours are vibrant, text appears crisp and it even holds up pretty well under bright-lights.
Side by side with the smaller Moto 360 2 – its closest rival in terms of aesthetics – it's evidently a better display. Not just because it offers genuine 360-degree visuals, but because everything just looks sharper. There's no ambient light sensor, however – so you'd always have to have the display to a preset brightness setting that doesn't account for your situation.
The display is always-on and there are almost 50 pre-loaded watch faces, not counting the hundreds officially on offer from Google Play. The supplied faces range from a little boring to quite vibrant, and certainly support the overall build quality.

HTC 10 Review

HTC 10 REVIEW

WHAT IS THE HTC 10?

2016 has been a fine year for smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S7LG G5 andHuawei P9 have all been excellent devices and now it’s the turn of HTC. After a poor 2015 – both the One A9 and Desire 530 disappointed – I can safely say the Taiwanese company is back.
The HTC 10 is a fantastic device. Probably the best HTC has ever crafted. It combines a lovely build with a strong set of software features to create one of the best Android experiences out there.
All that I can say is that the iPhone 7 better be something very special to match the Android big-boys this year.

HTC 10 – DESIGN

While the HTC 10 takes the brand’s flagship smartphone in a new design direction, it’s still very familiar. The front is stripped from the One A9, and the back is a tweaked and tuned version of the rear casing from the One M9.
It’s far from original and looking at it face-on you’d be forgiven for confusing it with an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S7, but for me it’s the perfect mix of style and substance.

KINGSTON DATA TRAVELER 2000 ENCRYPTEDFLASH DRIVE REVIEW

DATA TRAVELER 2000

Kingston DataTraveler 2000 Encrypted Flash Drive Review

Kingston is one of the most well known memory and USB flash drive manufacturers around the world.  They are constantly keeping up with technology and foreseeing the needs of users.  Recently at CES 2016, they announced their latest flash drive, the DataTraveler 2000.  The DataTraveler 2000 has several interesting factors that might make it one of the best secure flash drives around.  The first is that it includes AES-256 in XTS mode and is hardware based rather than software based.  Next, while some hardware encrypted flash drives partition the drive and use software to unlock the main data portion of the drive, the DataTraveler 2000 uses an alphanumeric keypad to unlock the drive.  Finally, it includes an automatic data wipe after 10 failed PIN entries.  Let’s take a closer look at this flash drive before seeing what else it can do and how it performs.

Like most of Kingston’s flash drives, the DataTraveler 2000 is packed in a standard hard plastic package that allows you to see exactly what you are purchasing.   The front provides a nice view of the drive, cover and the specific model.  While the back of the package provides some information on the drive, and tells you where to find more information.  I was expecting a little user manual inside the package, however it wasn’t located there, you have to download it from Kingston’s website, or have a little basic knowledge of the DataTraveler 2000 to get the user guide off the drive.
The Kingston DataTraveler 2000 has a metal casing that has been coated in a rubberized finish.  This is a soft and comfortable coating, which provides a nice high end texture.  In addition, it will help protect the drive more than just metal can.  There are a total of three LED’s on the drive, two of them near the USB connector indicates the drive status of either Locked or Unlocked, and is also critical for adjusting the PIN and setting the Mode.  The other LED by the KEY button indicates drive access and power.  Between the bottom LED and the end of the drive (where it says 32GB) is a little rubber ring that will help keep the drive protected once it is inside it’s outer cap.  At the very end of the drive is a pre-installed steel twisted lanyard that can be removed by twisting off the black locking mechanism.

The cap is rather simple, a metal tube that the flash drive slides into.  Unlike some caps, this one doesn’t matter which way it goes on.  Simply slide the drive into the cap and once it is all the way in, the rubber ring at the end of the flash drive provides a good water proof seal.

WAHT IS THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 ?

When I first picked up the Samsung Galaxy S7 I was underwhelmed. Was it simply going to be a minor update to the S6? After a few hours of use though I was won over. And even weeks later I’m still so impressed at how Samsung has made loads of minor changes that add up to create a fantastic phone.
HTC might have made wholesale changes with the HTC 10 and LG went all modular for the LG G5, but the Galaxy S7 stands atop the Android pile.
It looks sleeker than the iPhone 6S, has a better camera than the Nexus 6P and boasts a screen that leaves all the competition in the dust. It’s the most complete phone I’ve ever used.

    SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 – DESIGN

After the massive, and much needed, change in design direction Samsung took with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015, all rumours pointed to things staying pretty much the same for the Galaxy S7.
Well, it’s not like Apple, HTC or Sony make drastic changes to their industrial design every year.
And that’s exactly the case here. Place the Galaxy S7 next to the S6 and you’d be hard pushed to instantly pick which one is which. Frankly, this doesn’t bother me in the slightest. The S6 was already one of the best-looking phones around, and the Galaxy S7 follows suit.
